There's four young players that have been on the fringes of the first team over the course of last season with some breaking into the first team from January onwards on a regular basis, these players of course are Jamie Ness, Kyle Hutton, Gregg Wylde and John Fleck.
Name: Jamie Ness
Date of Birth: 2/3/1991 (20)
Position: Centre Midfield
Club League Appearances: 11
Jamie Ness made his first team debut against Motherwell on 26th December 2010, despite having made his first Rangers appearance against Portsmouth in a pre-season friendly. Ness has struggled with injuries throughout his career and hasn't played more than 6 games in a row since he was just 15 due to injuries. He's known for his ability to pick a pass and his fierce shot. He scored his first(and only to present) Rangers goal on 6th February 2011 against Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Cup 5th round 2-2 draw when he smashed a spectacular effort past Fraser Forster in the second minute of the match.
Ness' style of play has proved to be effective in him breaking into the first team and the Rangers faithful have taken a strong liken to him. If Ness can get over his injury problems, he could easily become the best midfielder to play for Rangers since Barry Ferguson first broke into the team.
Name: Kyle Hutton
Date of Birth: 15/2/1991(20)
Position: Centre Midfield
Club League Appearances: 7
Kyle Hutton is another central midfielder breaking into the team and since his first team debut against Kilmarnock on the opening day of last season, has drawn comparisons to Rangers legend Barry Ferguson due to his style of play. Hutton is a tough tackling, ball playing central midfielder who's not afraid to try things. Standing at 6 ft 2 inches and as strong as bull, Hutton certainly isn't one to mess with.
Kyle Hutton recently signed a contract extension at Ibrox, keeping him at the club until summer 2014, and has a bright future at the club, he's certainly one to look out for.
Name: Gregg Wylde
Date of Birth: 23/3/1991(20)
Position: Left Midfield
Club League Appearances: 17
The 20 year old from Kirkintilloch joined the Ibrox club as a 14 year old from Old Firm rivals Celtic and has since gone from strength to strength since then. Initially a left back, Wylde has since transformed to a left midfielder who uses his sheer pace to easily skip past his opponents. Wylde made his debut in August 2009 when he came on against Hamilton Accies at Ibrox.
Towards the end of last season Wylde became an important part of the first team towards the end of the season after making appearances in the Europa League clash against PSV Eindhoven, then the CIS Cup Final against Celtic. The left winger has a lot of work to do on his game, but theres no doubt he will be a terrific player for Rangers.
Name: John Fleck
Date of Birth: 24/8/1991(19)
Position: Attacking midfield/Centre forward
League Club Appearances: 37
John Fleck has been a player tipped for stardom since he was 14. When he made his first team debut against East Stirling in the Scottish Cup in 2008 he was aged just 16, his first league appearance came on the 22nd of May against Aberdeen, before he became the youngest player to play in a British Cup final 2 days later when he came on against Queen of the South in the Scottish Cup final.
Since then Fleck's career certainly hasn't hit the heights that were expected when he inspired a 5-0 Youth Cup Final over Celtic when he was just 15, before also inspiring them in the 2008 Youth Cup Final when Rangers again beat Celtic, this time 3-1. However, due to the immense about the pressure, Fleck hasn't been able to deal with that and he's fallen down the pecking order. After signing a 3 year contract in 2010, Flecks form has starting getting better when has got a chance. Perhaps under Ally McCoist, he will hit the heights that has been expected? One things for sure, fans need to lay off him.
